So I’ve been given the “EPOS Adapt 260 headset. EPOS is apparently a joint venture:

EPOS was formerly known as Sennheiser Communication and is a joint venture between Demant Group – a world-leading audio and hearing technology corporation – and Sennheiser. EPOS builds on its duality of past and future, pairing founded knowledge with forward-thinking technology to take the story of excellent sound experience to the next level. EPOS caters to the Enterprise Solutions, Gaming as well as to the Air Traffic Control segment, with a vast range of products with a contemporary design approach.

Fancy. So surely a good product no? It also comes no cheaper than 140 euros in Europe nowadayas..

Well, apparently they completely skipped QA because the headset suffers from a glitch that makes it completely unusable.

If you let the battery drain out completely while the headset is paired, the device will disconnect and enter a “glitched” state where it becomes completely unrensposive (not even after charging it or trying to plug it via USB instead of the bluetooth dongle) and the only thing it’ll do is blink rapidly twice in red when you press the microphone button to turn it on or off. Completely bricked.

The only way I found to restore the functionality is to remove the rubber, unscrew the cover of the speaker and unplug the little battery and replug it. This will effectively reboot the device (something that EPOS thought was not needed to be exposed, not even keeping any of the buttons pressed for longer).

Uplugging the battery from the main board

So yeah, here’s how you fix it. Simply don’t let it discharge completely and avoid buying the product if you can.
